This message may actually be longer than I intended… but I just listened to your Facing my Fears episode from January of last year. I had been saving it for some reason, or skipped it accidentally, and noticed it today. It was a lot of things I needed to hear to feel confident again in the thing I feel like I need to work on and do. In addition, I’ve listened to you just over a year, discovered after a cottage meeting (I miss those!) and you’ve had such a huge impact on getting my brain and life in a healthier place. I’d say you’ve saved my life but that may be a little too dramatic. The work you’re doing does have a far reaching impact.

Vision. I desired a clear vision of my purpose in my current season of life. And I got it! The principles my amazing accountability group and I studied in Level 1 of the Academy, and the MDM Celebration were pivotal in helping me establish my vision, my mission. The concepts of being a creator, using truth statements to overcome fears & obstacles, and an examination of the gifts I’ve been blessed with really opened up my mind and heart to things I couldn’t have imagined before. It also helped me declutter things in my life that were not useful or helping me move forward. Going into 2021, I am deeply grateful for this clarity of vision and I am SO excited to see what lies ahead. Looking forward to tackling Level 2 with the amazing ladies of my accountability group as well as those here in this group, and tackling other projects that are aligned with the vision I have established. Thank you!!

There has been a lot of conversation about The MDM Academy with my friends that were able to attend and even those that couldn’t attend the cottage meeting. We had a recent book discussion and one of the moms practiced the things she learned from the opinions to principles article–the 5 types of questions and searching for principles. Another mom has been talking a lot about discovering her strengths and how they apply to her mission. We have all been trying to figure out how we can use MDM to help support our community.

When Julie told us about The Mission Driven Teen, I knew that’s exactly what my daughter needed. Then I found out I had to join The MDM Academy for her to do it. My heart dropped. I just started going back to college this last semester, I homeschool, I started a certification program for a dyslexia tutoring program (my whole family has it) which still requires reports and observation, and service in my church. Not to mention the general run around and domestic chores that a family of 8 requires. How could I possibly add one more thing? We’ve been on the road visiting family and I came across The Mission Driven Mom podcast. I had just done a mind dump where I write all the ramblings down that are swirling in my head because I was so perplexed at how I was going to do all that needed to get done. After I heard the podcast about natural law, I just knew that I needed to start the academy and that we needed to shift our whole family dynamics.

I also learned that I am not really living some of the important values that I thought I was living. While I still haven’t figured out exactly what I am supposed to be doing I am grateful for the things I have learned in Level 1 and hope to be able to teach them to my 3 daughters. The MDM Academy has been an amazing addition to my life! When I attended the Mothers of Discernment Celebration last year, I didn’t know who you were. A friend of mine (Mandy Baker) had been telling me about MDM for a while, but I didn’t pay much attention because I had enough on my plate. It was the word “discernment” that caught my attention and got me to sign up for the celebration.
I really enjoyed the day with friends. I felt an instant connection to you because The Hiding Place has long been my favorite book, and I was super impressed with your gift for public speaking and how knowledgeable you are about… everything. Before the day was over I had purchased the book and signed up for Level 1.
I completed Level 1 in 6 months. At the end of April, I purchased Level 2. I was excited to keep learning, but the second book intimidated me. I stopped and did absolutely nothing with the academy until the middle of July. I’ve spent the last 4 weeks pushing past the fear that kept me from trying, and I have absolutely loved focusing on finding truth! Now I can’t wait to dig deeper!
I have learned so much since last October! I wish that I had this knowledge a few years ago when I served on our local school board. I feel like I made good decisions during my two terms, but If I had been able to talk with others in terms of principles rather than issues, we could have avoided a lot of drama and worked together toward common goals.

Since starting The MDM Academy over 6 months ago, I have made significant changes in my daily life.
Since starting The MDM Academy over 6 months ago, I have made significant changes in my daily life.
Since starting The MDM Academy over 6 months ago, I have made significant changes in my daily life, including a daily prayer and scripture reading time, the incorporation of positive self talk to the effect of reframing my previous tendency to see myself or others as victim/rescuer/perpetrator to now regularly reminding myself we are instead creators/coaches/challengers, the implementation of FitBit to help me stay active and be mindful of my caloric intake (I’ve lost over 15 pounds), and most instrumental of all: I consistently wake up about an hour before my young kids. This last item was a constant struggle for me, and now is the single most effective means of getting to all the other accomplishments. I periodically review what I’ve learned with my husband and link it to what I’m learning in other areas of my life: spiritual direction, counseling, Celebrate Recovery (a Christ-centered 12 step program I attend/follow for codependency issues). While I don’t have my life mission figured out yet, and I still need lots more practice with the 5 questions, I feel I have a solid grasp of what proper self-care looks like, and the impact it and self-management have on my immediate life. Self-discovery has been very fun and affirming, and while I’ve known many (though not all) of the insights about myself for years, I have a new understanding of how they actually fit into my life. All in all, The MDM Academy has been a godsend and I recommend it to everyone.

I’m just finishing up Cycle 1 of The MDM Academy so I still have a ways to go in Level 1, but I’ve been going so slowly to allow it to sink in. The readings have been so impactful and really life-changing for me. I can recognize when I am being a victim, a persecutor, or a rescuer and choose a different way! We all have strengths and weaknesses, but in spite of or because of them, we can accomplish what we have been sent here to do. But the most important thing, the thing that will conquer all is LOVE. It has helped me recognize my strengths and gifts that the Lord has given me to accomplish what HE needs me to do. And the glory goes to Him! This MDM Academy has also helped me evaluate if I am living true to what I value. Just some ramblings on what I’ve learned so far. And to think I have 3 more cycles to go for Level 1! I’m excited for what’s ahead!

Love God and allow yourself to feel His love. Love self and open your heart to believe it. It’s hard to articulate how. I’ve learned countless lessons regarding this principle and it started with Audrey highlighting on page 1 of The MDM Academy Level 1, Love God, Love Self. Wow! I only ever heard love neighbor in that scripture and it sent me on a year-long inquiry. Seek and Ye shall find! I’ve learned about perfectionism and judging and where all the noise in my head comes from and how to make it disappear and it totally has! Vanished. I love me now and miraculously I love others too. I have room for my mistakes and theirs. Room for their super mega awesome successes without it feeling like it puts me down. Completely life-changing. Thank you MDM. I love this tribe!

I finished the first level of The MDM Academy and now I’ve begun the second. I’m already feeling so inspired to live a life of principles, seek truth, and be continually better educated. The MDM Academy has been so great for me and gotten me back onto an intellectual mind-frame that I haven’t had in years. True education is not something that society will hand you; it’s not something that will happen by accident. If you have a “mission” in life to be righteous, to please God, to build a strong marriage and family, or any other Godly pursuit, then this curriculum is for you. Especially as we are raising children or influencing Grandchildren, it’s important to gain wisdom and knowledge so that we can then impart it to them! This content is very important. Education will only bless your life, and education based on spiritual principles will bless you in the eternities as well.

I just finished my Level 1 course. It feels so good!
The MDM Academy has been a transformative challenge for me this summer. I was excited to read, listen, ponder, and make changes. I appreciated Audrey’s generalized teaching style that allowed me to fill in the specifics for my own situation (as in she taught principles while sometimes highlighting applications but never forcing us towards one way of action or thinking). She invited me to learn the principle for myself and empowered me to initiate my own solutions in my life.
My favorite part of The MDM Academy has been the invitation to ask great questions. The five types of questions have helped me study deeper. And the tool of empowering questions has made me a better parent, partner, friend, and mentor, not to mention how it has helped me wade through my own mental health struggles.
I feel so inspired by the things I was asked to do for The MDM Academy. When I put off an assignment I would fall off in other ways in my life too. Somehow making time for this program created more productive time for me to be with my family. And when I’m with my family I’m kinder because my self-care is being addressed, my mind is being nourished and I’m delegating more to my growing but still young kids.
Through my work, I’ve discovered how dedicated I am to truth and that some of my actions weren’t lining up with that priority, especially in ways I was trying to be a people-pleaser and “kind” but was failing myself at being intentional and honest. I’ve decided that honesty and bringing light to others will be my focus going forward and I’ve included that sentiment in my mission statement to inspire my progress.
